Wilco Debut “Tell Your Friends” Video on ‘Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ (Watch)
Wilco premiered a family-friendly video for their new coronavirus-era song, “Tell Your Friends,” on Wednesday night’s remote edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The track is available for immediate download on Bandcamp, with all proceeds going to the World Central Kitchen. You can watch the video below. Not making it to air, Jeff Tweedy performed “Jesus, Etc.” You can also check that out below. (Update: the video of “Tell Your Friends” has been removed from YouTube.)
“Tell Your Friends” had its world premiere over the weekend on Live from Here with Chris Thile. Before the pandemic happened, Wilco were scheduled to perform this month at a live taping of Thile’s show. Adapting with the times, Thile re-tooled Live from Here to feature pre-recorded segments. For Saturday’s episode, besides debuting “Tell Your Friends,” Wilco contributed live recordings from a pop-up show they did in December for Songkick Live.
As for the new song, Jeff posted the following note on the Wilco website:
“We miss each other. So we wrote a song about it to sing with each other, to sing to each other.”
“Tell Your Friends” was recorded at The Loft in Chicago and produced by Jeff Tweedy and Tom Schick.
For those craving more Wilco during these messed up times, The Tweedy Show, an Instagram Live show featuring Jeff and his family, is still on the air. They have taped over 50 episodes. Wilco also continue to add recordings and in-depth show notes to their Front of House series on nugs.net. The most recent addition is a show in Fredericton, NB Canada, from the band’s Sky Blue Sky tour in 2006.
