One of the great things about the Tribeca Film Festival is all the free events the festival offers. From the talks at the Apple Store to the Tribeca Drive-In movie series, there are many ways to jump on the festival’s bandwagon without spending a dime. Here is the lowdown on our favorite 2015 Tribeca Film Festival freebies.
Apple Store Talks
A longtime staple of the Tribeca Film Festival, this free series of conversations let’s you get to know the festival’s filmmakers. Presented by film news site Indiewire, this year’s ‘Meet the Filmmakers’ program features talks with Ethan Hawke, January Jones, Arnold Schwarzenneger, Taylor Schilling, Paz de la Huerta, and Kevin Pollack. And, for those who get off on the mechanics of the film industry, there are a series of talks on the future of filmmaking. Reserve your space now here: http://www.apple.com/retail/tribeca/.
Storyscapes
Now in its third year, Storyscapes showcases a juried selection of interactive projects chosen for their use of technology and unique approach to storytelling. Among Tribeca’s class of 2015 are life-coach app, Karen; Anagram’s experiment in living sense-less, Door Into the Dark; Brett Gaylor’s Do Not Track, which looks at online privacy and the web economy; and virtual reality installations The Enemy and The Machine To Be Another. Free to attend, this section of the fest is sponsored by Bombay Sapphire, which means if you time it right you may score some gratis drinks. It all goes down at the fest’s new creative hub, Spring Studios. Booking a time slot is recommended: https://tribecafilm.com/storyscapes
Drive-In Movies
The Drive-In movie series is one of Tribeca’s signature programs that dates back to the fest’s more humble beginnings. Everyone is invited to to Brookfield Place where a big screen has been set up. The setting is gorgeous, it’s just the weather that hasn’t always been the most cooperative, so fingers-crossed mother nature will be kind. This year’s line-up includes a 30th Anniversary screening of Clue, Lady and the Tramp, and the world premiere of David Gelb’s A Faster Horse, which looks at the Ford Mustang on the car’s 50th birthday.
