7 Things We Learned from Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast with Eric Andre
In the lead-up to tomorrow’s premiere of The Eric Andre Show Season 4, Eric Andre sat down with Marc Maron for Maron’s WTF podcast. Once at odds, the two buried the hatchet and shot the shit for over an hour. It was great talk and yielded some interesting bits of information about Andre. We recommend listening to it, but if you don’t have the time, here are seven things we learned.
1. Andre and Maron were not friends for many years.
Back in the late oughts, Maron performed at a show that Andre was hosting in a restaurant. Andre hates hosting and for this show he got kind of f*cked up so he could cope. When Maron came out, he ripped Andre a new a**hole. Andre thought it was in good fun until he heard Maron was bad mouthing him to other comedians. Maron was dealing with some heavy stuff at the time, and now, years later, they are total brotendos.
2. Andre and Maron are in a movie together that they aren’t proud of.
Andre and Maron briefly discussed that they had worked together on a movie and referred to it as a shameful event. They didn’t mention the name of the film, but we’re guessing it’s Flock of Dudes, which will be in theaters on September 30.
3. Andre is a self-proclaimed jazz dork.
If you’re a fan of Andre, you probably know that he went to Berklee College of Music and can play many instruments, including upright bass, piano, tuba, guitar, cello and drums. Also, you probably know that when he was in school he was in a band called BLARF. However, what you may not be aware of is that Andre was really into jazz and considers himself a total jazz dork. During his conversation with Maron they geek out about a few jazz musicians.
4. Andre has a dirty little secret regarding Bill Cosby.
Given that Andre’s co-host Hannibal Buress was involved with Bill Cosby’s recent demise, Andre has been asked to comment about the comedian. What people might not know is that Cosby spoke at Andre’s college graduation and that Andre has an album signed by Cosby in his collection. He isn’t quite sure what to do with it now.
5. Andre had a Jerry Maguire moment that helped clarify that he should be a comedian.
You probably know that Andre considered a career in music or the music industry, but people may not know that he also thought about law school. Years ago, when Andre was struggling as a comedian in New York City, his father convinced him to take the LSATs. The morning of the test, Andre went to the school where the test was being administered, and moments before he was supposed to start, Andre had an epiphany and broke his pencil and stormed out. If he had gone the law route, can you imagine what he would have been like cross-examining witnesses?
6. Andre leaked some information about Season 4.
Maron viewed two episodes of the upcoming season in advance of their interview, so some of their discussion centered around what he watched. Andre revealed that this season’s theme is dystopian and more Eraserhead. Things are very gray and gloomy.
7. Andre is currently single.
Hey bratendos, you may have a chance. Andre mentioned that he just went through a break up.
