‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’ Gets Juicy New Trailer
After a couple of teasers, the folks at Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp are finally ready to show us more of the goods. And, boy, are they good. The Netflix series’ newest trailer, which you can find below, puts us right back in the Camp Firewood spirit. We learn that the crew we came to know and love in the original, which was set on the last day of camp, are younger, hotter and wetter in the prequel.
Some of the storylines are hinted at, like how McKinley (Michael Ian Black) and Ben (Bradley Cooper) come to have secret meet-ups in the toolshed, and that Gene (Christopher Meloni) was not always honest about his Vietnam vet-status. It looks like some sort of camp crisis finds the camp director (Janeane Garofalo) calling upon his military skills. H. Jon Benjamin, who played a talking can of Pozinsky’s mixed vegetables in the original, is an actual person in the prequel. Perhaps we learn how he came to be a can. And, we’re curious how Ronald Reagan figures into things. Michael Showalter appears to be playing him.
There are a few new faces in the mix: Jason Schwartzman, Josh Charles, John Slattery, an army-fatigued Jon Hamm, and a horny Kristen Wiig, among others. One thing is certain, this is going to be one crazy camp opening day. All we can do now is pray for more trailers, and continue our countdown to July 31.
For those who’d like a refresher on the original, below the new trailer you’ll find what they ran to promote the 2001 film. Also, if you’re in New York, you can catch up with Wet Hot American Summer in the SummerScreen series. It screens on July 13.
