Wasted Shirt (Ty Segall & Brian Chippendale) “All Is Lost” Video Shows What Your Brain Looks Like On Their Music
Wasted Shirt picked the perfect time to share a song called “All Is Lost.” Brian Chippendale (Lightning Bolt) and Ty Segall’s new project invokes the finest cosmic energy. The second single off the duo’s new album comes with a brain-melting video that you can watch below. Fungus II drops on February 28th via Famous Class. The limited-edition colored vinyl is selling like hotcakes, so think about getting your pre-order in soon.
News that Ty and Brian were releasing an album as Wasted Shirt came less than a month ago. At the time of the announcement, they shared the first single off the record, “Double the Dream.” A piercing, aural ambush, the song, plus Henry Rollins’ ringing endorsement of Ty and Brian’s musical partnership, left us wanting more.
As for the new track, it’s a frenetic, fuzzy meeting of two devilishly gifted noisemakers. Also, it sees Ty and Brian sharing vocal duties to ghostly effect.
The Adam Davies-directed video is a mix of claymation and MRI stop-motion. It features animation by Davies, Leili Tavallaei, and Nick McKernan. In the press materials, Davies says, “Like it’s a melty, hot mosh pit, we wanted to crawl inside the wave of energy Ty and Brian create.”
Describing how he made the video and its different elements, Davies added, “We boiled and mixed clay, sliced it up and photographed the slices in sequence to match the dudes’ energy. Then while the breakdown pummels you, we blast you in the face with MRIs of humans, animals, and fruit to make you go inside out to the beat.” It’s all about the brains, man. Any questions?
Famous Class has already sold out of the Clear with Colored Thread edition of Fungus II. So, they’ve added a limited Neon Green vinyl option (pictured above). You can also pick up/pre-order a copy of the LP at your local indie record store. In stores, it is available in Violet vinyl (US) and Orange vinyl (UK) on February 28th.
