Wand Plays New York City This Week, ‘Perfume’ EP out Now
Wand, the band responsible for one of our favorite live shows of 2017, is coming back to New York City this week. The Los Angeles-based five-piece are currently on tour following the release of their new EP, Perfume, which dropped last month via Drag City. They have two area gigs planned, Zone One at Elsewhere on Friday, June 15, and outside at Union Pool on Saturday, June 16. The Union Pool show is part of the bar’s free daytime Summer Thunder series. Tickets for the Elsewhere show are still available.
After a slight respite, Wand returned to form last year. Adding two new members in 2016, Sofia Arreguin on keyboards and Robbie Cody on guitar, the band previewed new tunes on a tour that saw them play SXSW, and in September released their first LP in two years, Plum. A psych-rock masterpiece, Plum is at once ripe and adventurous. The band approached the record in a more collaborate fashion, whereas previous album’s found frontman Cory Hanson taking the lead on the songwriting. The band toured extensively following Plum‘s release.
In February, news came that Wand had a new EP on the way. Perfume was recorded by Tim Green between tours in Grass Valley, California, similar to its predecessor. The new album is just as sweet as Plum, and should provide sonic gratification for those seeking a celestial listening experience. You can get a whiff of Perfume below, with the video for track “Pure Romance”. Perfume is out now, pick it up here.
Below, you’ll also find photos from their show at Bowery Ballroom on October 6, 2017. Yonatan Gat and Darto opened the show, and while Wand played “Flying Golem” members of Darto came out on stage dressed like ducks. For the upcoming New York City shows, The Spirit of the Beehive opens. You can find all of Wand’s upcoming tour dates below.
