The Walter Reade Theater’s ‘Screen Dreams’ Kickstarter Offers Great Rewards for Film Lovers

Here is a fundraising campaign New York City film lovers should definitely rally behind. On the occasion of its 25th birthday, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater is looking to get a facelift. They currently have a Kickstarter going to help fund the enhancements, and there are a number of amazing rewards for those who contribute.

The first home of the Film Society within the Lincoln Center campus, the Walter Reade plays host to the New York Film Festival, as well as a variety of acclaimed series and retrospectives throughout the year. When it was built in 1991, the 248-seat theater was conceived as a bridge between cinema’s past and present. It recalls theaters from the heyday of moviegoing, but is also outfitted with cutting-edge projection and Dolby Sound. It is also one of the last remaining theaters in the country to show movies on print. Today, in an effort to remain a state-of-the-art facility, the Walter Reade is seeking to update their 35-foot wide screen.

As for all the goodies you can get if contribute, there are rewards for pledges starting at $5, but some of the best dividends come in at the $50 and above level. Among are favorites are a signed copy of Director of Programming, Dennis Lim’s David Lynch: The Man From Another Place, two opening night tickets to Human Rights Watch 2017, or the FSLC branded limited edition Manhattan Portage messenger bag. Also, there’s a bargain way to get the FSLC’s Film Lover level membership. The membership, which usually runs $75, can be yours for a pledge of $50. Higher contributions can score you free popcorn for a year, two VIP tickets to a summer sneak preview screening, or four months of patron screenings.

The Kickstarter will be funded at 2pm EDT on Friday, July 8, so get a move on if you want to get involved. Go here for more information. Also, at the conclusion of the Kickstarter, the Walter Reade will be closed from July 8 to September 8 for repairs and renovations.
