Action Bronson, Interpol, Deerhunter & More Curate Final Season of Parties at House of Vans Brooklyn
Despite being given fair warning that House of Vans Brooklyn is closing in September, we are still having a hard time accepting that this the last season of Vans House Parties at the skatepark-cum-music venue in Greenpoint. Of course, Vans plans to close things out on a high note. For the summer series’ final hurrah, Vans has secured headliners who will also act as curators. Bands such as Suicidal Tendencies, Deerhunter and Interpol have been invited to hand-pick all supporting talent as well as create a personalized visual art experience for their designated evening. This concept is similar to a party Spanish indie-rockers Hinds threw at the space in 2016. It all gets underway this Thursday, June 14, when Action “Fuck, That’s Delicious” Bronson presides over the first soiree of season.
Opened in 2011, House of Vans was conceived as a cultural hub for the lifestyle brand. Consisting of an indoor concrete bowl, outdoor skate plaza, and a stage with a killer soundsystem, Vans, with the help of West Coast concert promotion company FYF, began throwing public, all-ages parties in the space in the summer of 2011. Over the years, bands such as Man Man, Cro-Mags, Screaming Females, The Rapture, Mac DeMarco, the late great Charles Bradley, !!!, The Melvins, Television, King Khan & the Shrines, The Black Lips, Sleep, Parquet Courts, Royal Headache, and Converge have performed to capacity crowds. The venue has also hosted a number of other parties (Hallo-Wolfbat, Metamorphosis, Create Your Mark, Band of Horses Album release party, & more), skate nights and film screenings.
Accompanying the lineup for the final season in Brooklyn, Vans also announced a program that will give 10 Brooklyn public schools the chance to receive $10,000 of music equipment to form a rock band, jazz band, or classical ensemble. The project is entitled ‘Vans Gives A Band Music Fund’ and the winning school also receives a $10,000 grant to fund their music program. Schools were invited to apply and the winning institution is expected to be announced this month.
For the first party of House of Vans Brooklyn’s eighth and final season, Action Bronson has invited Darnell Williams and B.A.G. (Blimes + Gifted Gab) to perform. Plus, there will be an art and tattoo experience by Bert Krak, owner of Smith Street Tattoo Parlour.
As for getting in on this summer’s party action, RSVP is the best way to gain entry to the free House of Vans parties. Below you will find the complete lineup, as well as when the RSVP for each shindig opens. We will be updating this post throughout the season.
