Ty Segall joins the ranks of Christine & the Queens, Waxahatchee, Colin Meloy, TORRES, and Hamilton Leithauser, to play the pandemic-era Live on KEXP at Home concert series. From his bunker in Topanga Canyon, California, Ty will join Cheryl Waters today to perform a brief set. Tune in below at 6pm ET/3pm PT.

The coronavirus foiled Ty’s spring touring plans. His residency at Thalia Hall in Chicago, which was supposed to go down last week, was canceled. And his May/June 2020 tour with FUZZ has been rescheduled for next year. Still on the books is a European tour and his September/October US tour with the Freedom Band. Fingers crossed there will be a plan in place so these gigs can proceed.

Ty fans have had some new scraps to nibble on during the lockdown. Early on, the musician gifted the world an album where he covers a selection of songs from Harry Nilsson’s Nilsson Schmilsson. Titled Segall Smeagol, you can download the album for free on Bandcamp.

Last month, Ty Segall’s Pig Man Lives: Volume 1 boxset, previously only available on vinyl, was unleashed on streaming services. The compilation features 47 demos recorded between 2007-2017 when Ty was working on Manipulator, Freedom’s Goblin, Emotional Mugger, Twins, Slaughterhouse, Sleeper, and more. Via Instagram, Ty also announced to the world a recent addition to his family, a dachshund named Herman. It’s no secret Ty is fond of his dog, Fanny. He talks about her often and even wrote a song for her. The musician introduced Herman as Fanny’s little brother. Perhaps Ty will bless us with a medley to Herman sometime soon.

As for today’s KEXP set, Ty will play four of his songs, plus a cover chosen by listeners. We aren’t sure if KEXP will leave the show up on YouTube for a while or if they will take it down. Best make yourself available for the live transmission.

He pre-recorded the songs in his basement and chatted live with Cheryl Waters. They touched on a variety of topics, from dogs to what Ty’s been up to during the ‘stay at home’ order.
