Twin Peaks Announces ‘Lookout Low’, Shares Video for First Single “Dance Through It” & Tour Dates

Twin Peaks is growing up before our eyes (and ears). We couldn’t be more proud! The ever-exuberant Chicago fivesome has announced their fourth studio album, Lookout Low, due out September 13, 2019. Along with details of the record, the group shared a video for the first single, “Dance Through It.” You can check it out below. They plan to tour extensively to support the new LP following its drop in September. However, if you’re in New York City, the gang will be at Rough Trade tomorrow to preview some new songs. You can find details about that gig here.

Forming in 2010 while still in high school, Twin Peaks have outlived several of their Chicago contemporaries, including the Smith Westerns and The Orwells. Comprising guitarists Cadien Lake James and Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan, multi-instrumentalist Colin Croom, and drummer Connor Brodner, Twin Peaks set out on their first US headlining tour in 2013 following the release of their debut Sunken. Then, in 2014, came Wild Onion, an anthemic album that mixed early ‘70s Stones, with power-pop and the sound of classic Lou Reed. The record coupled with their energetic live shows, established them as a force to be reckoned with. 2016 saw the drop of Down In Heaven. More polished yet still free-spirited, the band’s third studio outing was a charm. It showed the boys were ready, willing, and able to mature their garage-rock sound.

Amid an exhaustive tour schedule in 2017, the band dropped a live double LP (Urbs in Horto) and shared new music via a subscription series titled Sweet ’17 Singles. From July 2017 through to the end of the year, subscribers received a 7” vinyl each month. The songs were later released as a compilation LP. This project yielded a variety of playful one-offs such as “Shake Your Lonely,” “Tossing Tears,” and “Under the Pines.”

Now, here we are in 2019, and the group is ready for their next chapter. Starting with 27 songs, they arrived at 10 tracks for the new LP. They recorded them at Monnow Valley Studio in the UK over three weeks under the guidance of Brit Awards-winning producer Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, U2, Paul McCartney). The band’s goal was to bottle the energy of their shows and knew Johns’s reputation for recording everything live. It was an ideal pairing.

Horns appear to play an important role in Lookout Low, with Croom coming up with the album’s soulful arrangements. The group also enlisted drummer Kyle Davis for auxiliary percussion, and OHMME’s Macie Stewart and Sima Cunningham add backing vocals on seven of the tracks.

As for the first single “Dance Through It,” the band says it’s indicative of what you’ll find on the rest of the album. The video, which was shot in Berlin, is co-directed by Ariel Fisher and Léo Schrepel. The filmmakers create a slasher romance for the track that’s inspired by Wong Kar-wai’s Fallen Angels.

Lookout Low is available for pre-order now. Those that pre-order through participating indie retail stores will receive a “Dance Through It” 7” that features an unreleased song on the B-side.

And, the best news is that Twin Peaks is heading out on a massive US and European tour. If you have yet to see these guys live, it’s really a must. For those in NYC, they hit Rough Trade in Brooklyn tomorrow and come back again in December to play Webster Hall with openers Lala Lala & OHMME. All dates are below. Tickets are on sale now. Go get ’em.
