‘Trainwreck’: How to Prepare for Amy Schumer’s New Movie

Moveover Shark Week, Trainwreck is coming through. Based on the early buzz and director Judd Apatow’s tweets that the film has a fresh rating on Rottentomatoes, Trainwreck may just topple Sharknado 3. Or, at least it will beat it at the box office since Sharknado 3 is only airing on cable. But seriously, Trainwreck is shaping up to be the runaway hit of the summer, sealing Amy Schumer as a comedic force to be reckoned with and introducing audiences to a new side of LeBron James. Other members of the cast include Bill Hader, Mike Birbiglia, Vanessa Bayer, Brie Larson, John Cena, and Colin Quinn.

Written by Schumer, the film is about a commitment-phobic career woman who starts to question her philandering ways when she meets a good guy.

By now you may be wondering, how do I ready myself as I eagerly await Trainwreck’s theatrical arrival? Well, you’ve come to the right place because we’re going to give you some tips for Trainwreck preparedness.

1. Watch the trailer

This is a no-brainer. You need to know what you contending with here and the trailer is the best place to start. The time commit is also minimal. The trailer clocks in at under 3 minutes.

2. See the cast and crew in person talking about the film (or see the film)

New York City has its selling points, one of which is that celebrities travel to the city (if they aren’t already here) to plug their film projects. In the case of Trainwreck, there are a couple of ways to catch up with members of the cast and crew this week. Amy Schumer will be at the Apple Store in SoHo tonight to do a free talk. Judd Apatow is currently being fêted by the Film Society of Lincoln Center and tonight will be in conversation with Lena Dunham. Tickets are sold out, but there will be a standby line. You can end the anticipation and try to secure a ticket to Trainwreck’s World Premiere on Tuesday night. Tickets are sold out for the red carpet affair (there will be standby line), but a second screening (without cast intro) has been added at 7:30pm. Tickets are still available.

3. See the cast and crew on TV talking about the film

4. Catch up on some of the interviews the cast and crew have already done plugging the film

Trainwreck has already received a ton of press, so you may want to spend some time catching up on some of the pieces that have already run. Among them are a sit down Schumer did at SXSW, a piece The Today Show aired in April, and an interview Schumer did with The New York Times that appeared July 8. Also, Apatow spoke with The Playlist for an interview that ran today. And, for some chuckles, you may want to tune into the clip below that finds Jon Hamm impersonating Bill Hader for an interview with Extra.
