Tim Heidecker Converts Trump’s Ramblings Into a Song, “I’ve Never Understood the Wind” (Listen)
Tim Heidecker shared a new song to his Bandcamp. And with this one, he might have figured out what President Trump’s next act should be. The Tim & Eric co-star composed a brief tune using a few lines from Trump’s remarks on wind power at the Turning Point USA Student Action Summit. Entitled “I’ve Never Understood the Wind,” Heidecker’s track perfectly weds Trump’s lyrics with that 1970s Laurel Canyon sound the comedian loves so much. You can listen to the song below.
It’s been a minute since Heidecker posted a protest song to his Bandcamp. During the first half of 2019, he was very prolific. He shared “#FuckFuckJerry,” “I’ll Be as Tall as I Want to Be,” and “To the Men,” which protested The Human Life Protection Act in Alabama. He also released What the Brokenhearted Do…, a fake break-up album inspired by a rumor circulating in the alt-right community that his wife had left him. And, he ushered the year in with Another Year in Hell: Collected Songs from 2018, an EP that features highlights of his musical output from the previous year.
All of this follows the release of Heidecker’s now-infamous 2017 LP of anti-Trump songs, Too Dumb For Suicide: Tim Heidecker’s Trump Songs. The album includes Heidecker’s collaboration with Father John Misty, “Trump’s Private Pilot.”
For “I’ve Never Understood the Wind,” Heidecker took some minor creative liberties with Trump’s ramblings on wind power. Below are the lyrics to the song, for which he gave Trump a songwriting credit. You can go here for the transcript of Trump’s remarks.
I never understood the wind
I know windmills very much
I’ve studied them more than anybody…
Tremendous fumes
Gases are spewing into the atmosphere
You know we have a world
The world is tiny compared to the universe…
So, what do you think? Could Trump have a future as a lyricist when he’s done with all this politicking? Perhaps he could team up with producer Jonathan Wilson, or better yet Mark Ronson. He never got that Emmy, but maybe his nonsensical word vomit could translate to a Grammy.
As for Heidecker, he’s heading out on the “Tim and Eric 2020 Mandatory Attendance Tour” beginning in mid-January. There are two dates in the New York area, Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on February 11 and the Town Hall in Manhattan on February 12. Click here to find out the other stops. He also recently hosted the On Cinema Oscar Special 2020 Telethon. You can find out more about that here.
