This Week in Food (7/13-7/19): Dumplings, Pit ‘n’ Whiskey, RARA Mag Launch, Peck’s Literary Feast
NYC food fans, there are some tasty morsels coming up on the calendar this week. Among our picks are a crash course on the history of dumplings, a Greek meal inspired by Annie Liontas’s Let Me Explain You, a food-themed magazine launch party, and a farm-to-table dinner at a new pop-up green space on the waterfront in Williamsburg. Dumplings: A Global History
Dumplings come in many shapes, sizes and nationalities. For this event, Barbara Gallani, author of Dumplings: A Global History, decodes the dumpling and explores the differences and similarities between varieties made around the world. Be sure to bring your appetite, a tasting accompanies this discussion.

Food Karma Feasts: Pit ‘n’ Whiskey at The Farm on Kent
Enjoy a farm-to-table style meal prepared by an award-winning chef while taking in views of the Williamsburg Bridge, the Statue of Liberty and Manhattan skyline. It happens Thursday at a new outdoor pop-up green space and farm built by North Brooklyn Farms on the footprint of the iconic Domino Sugar Refinery building. Food Karma Projects is crafting the culinary elements of the evening, which include a meal prepared by Pitmaster Robbie Richter using locally sourced meats along with craft beer, wine and spirits. Musical entertainment will also be on tap. The price of admission covers all food and beverage.

RARA Magazine Launch Party
Founded earlier this year, RARA is a collaboration between cooks and artists Rachel Barrett and Aimee Hunter. Together, they are curators of cuisine, host a supper club series, and also publish a bi-annual culinary art magazine. This Friday, they are throwing a party to celebrate the release of their inaugural issue, “Summer 2015: Play With Your Food”. The event will feature food and music, and magazines will be available for purchase.

Peck’s Book/Plate Featuring Annie Liontas, author of Let Me Explain You
Peck’s Homemade and Greenlight Bookstore have teamed up for a literary/culinary series that features a meal inspired by a recently released book. For this edition, the focus of the night is Annie Liontas’s debut novel Let Me Explain You. In keeping with the book, which is about Greek-American family who come together over food, the evening serves up a a dinner that reimagines classics from a Greek diner menu, like moussaka and baklava. Liontas will also be present for charming dinner conversation.
