Every Oh Sees Fan Will Want to Get Their Hands On This Box Set

Oh Sees Box SetHere’s something for that extra special Oh Sees fan on your list. John Dwyer’s band has been hard at work on a limited edition box set that contains 12 remastered albums on stereo 8-track cartridges. Yep, you read right, 8-track tapes, super old school. Only 100 hand numbered box sets were produced with 60 available for fans to purchase. The rest are going to the band and the volunteers that worked on the project. These puppies go on sale via 5Seven Records on Monday, November 25 at 10am PST and will set you back $420.

This glorious collection, which features psychedelic artwork by Belgium artist Elzo Durt, took over a year to make because each 8-track cart was reconditioned by hand from 40+ year-old cartridges. The set contains 12 albums made by Dwyer and his various musical associates between 2008 and 2018. Each 8-track represents a different album. The set includes 130 songs that translate to over 8 hours and 21 minutes of musical joy. This means you’ll be paying $.84 per minute. Plus, each set includes a 36-page zine that covers the making of the release, 8-track history, album information, band posters and more. You’ll also get a 5”x7” photo signed by Dwyer and extra goodies like stickers, buttons, and patches.

As for the albums Dwyer’s remastered, the set includes:
The Master’s Bedroom is Worth Spending a Night In (2008) – Thee Oh Sees
Help (2009) – Thee Oh Sees
Castlemania (2011) – Thee Oh Sees
Carrion Crawler/The Dream (2011) – Thee Oh Sees
Putrifiers II (2012) – Thee Oh Sees
Floating Coffin (2013) – Thee Oh Sees
Drop (2014) – Thee Oh Sees
Mutilator Defeated at Last (2015) – Thee Oh Sees
A Weird Exits (2016) – Thee Oh Sees
Orc (2017) – Oh Sees
Memory of a Cut Off Head (2017) – OCS
Smote Reverser (2018) – Oh Sees

You can listen to one of the remastered tracks below, “Beat Quest” off Smote Reverser.

In terms of the company the band has partnered with on this endeavor, 5Seven Records, they worked with King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard on limited edition 8-track, floppy disc, and 8-bit NES cartridge versions of Polygondwanaland. All of which sold out quickly.

For those who’ll be in the market for an 8-track player after purchasing this set, we suggest visiting the 8-Track Heaven website. They can point you in the right direction.

And, if $420 is too steep, you can always browse the Castle Face Records website for other Oh Sees merchandise and vinyl. Among them you’ll find The 12″ Synth, and a repress of Sucks Blood. UPDATE 11/24: The audio from The 12″ Synth has been posted on YouTube. Read more about it here.

Oh Sees are currently on a tour hiatus following a long stretch on the road that included three nights at Warsaw in Brooklyn. The band has one gig coming up at the end of the month. They headline Posadelic 2019 in Sonora, Mexico.
