Vulture Festival Happening This Weekend
The Vulture Festival is back! Launched last year by Vulture.com and New York Magazine, this weekend-long event is devoted to all things pop culture. The extravaganza is headquartered at the posh Milk Studios and features talks, tours, screenings, performances and even a podcast recording. Some of offerings are already sold out, like the conversation with Jerry Seinfeld, the mad tour of the Whitney with New York Magazine senior art critic Jerry Saltz, and the first look at the new Hulu series Difficult People. But, pop culture fanatics don’t despair, there are still many ways to get in on the Vulture Festival fun. And when we say fun, we’re in part referring to the free cocktails and Vulture lounge time that are included in the cost of admission to events taking place at Milk Studios.
So, for those wondering which events you can still get in on at this shindig, here are the ones we suggest:
John Green
John Green is a bit of Renassiance man. In addition to be an award-winning author, he’s a famed YouTube personality and started a charitable movement called Project for Awesome. His book credits include The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, and Paper Towns, which will be coming out in film form this summer. Green was also named one of Time magazine’s most influential people in the world in 2014. For his Vulture Fest talk, he’ll be chatting with Vulture editor Margaret Lyons about this young-adult empire and other ventures. This event includes two free drinks and time in the Vulture Lounge. Get your tickets here.
Animated Voices
This event hit all sorts of high notes last year, so the fest organizers decided to bring it back. It features actors behind the voices of characters on Bob’s Burgers, Lucas Bros. Moving Co. and Family Guy reading classic movie scenes in their animated voices. It also goes down a Milk Studios and includes two free (alcoholic) beverages. Pick up your tickets here.
Lisa Kudrow: The Comeback
Lisa Kudrow is a comedic powerhouse. The Emmy Award-winning actress solidified her place in the annals of television for her role as Phoebe in Friends, and the went on to co-create and star in the pioneering comedy for HBO, The Comeback. The show, which aired its first season in 2005, is about a veteran sitcom actress who is starring in a reality show about her return to television. The Comeback was cancelled after its first season. In a strange twist, the show was brought back to life and its second season aired on HBO in 2014. A season three is also in the works. Kudrow will discuss her storied career with New York / Vulture TV critic Matt Zoller Seitz. Tickets available here.
Comedy Night
Vulture closes out its weekend of pop culture fun the same way it did last year with a seriously jam-packed comedy show at The Bell House. The bill includes Colin Quinn, Wyatt Cenac, Phoebe Robinson, Jermaine Fowler and Chris Gethard among others. You’re certain to find something to laugh at with all the talent parading the stage.
