Get Your Tweedy Show T-Shirts, Proceeds Support Victims of Domestic Violence
As the pandemic continues, so does this season of The Tweedy Show. And, as of this week, the show has merch. Fans of the reality-music variety series can proudly support Jeff Tweedy and his family’s Instagram Live exploits by buying the official t-shirt of The Tweedy Show. Proceeds from sales go to Be Alright. You can order your t-shirt now at The Tweedy Show website.
The Tweedy Show, which stars Jeff, his wife Susie, and sons, Spencer and Sammy, has been growing in popularity since it launched back in mid-March. For any given episode, 1,200-1,500 fans (or clients, as the Tweedys like to refer to them) tune in to watch the family hang out and sing songs together. Of late, the family has been scaling back production, going from seven nights a week, to five four. They go off air on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays (UPDATE May 29: They now take Saturday nights off). On show nights, you can find The Tweedy Show broadcasting via Susie’s Instagram at 10pm ET/9pm CT/7pm PT.
Besides viewing the shows on Instagram, director and expert cinnamontoastographer (aka cinematographer) Susie archives old episodes on YouTube. You can find those here.
Fans have been clamoring for The Tweedy Show merchandise for weeks. The t-shirts the family is producing are 100% cotton, come in black, and feature the show’s Jeff Knurek-designed logo. They begin shipping May 21.
100% of the proceeds from the shirts go to Be Alright, an organization that helps victims of domestic violence. The Tweedys posted the following message about the group on their website:
Everyone knows that sheltering at home is the best way to contain COVID-19.
But some people do not have a safe home, leading to the need to seek shelter.
The sad reality is that many communities are experiencing a rise in domestic violence cases of up to 30%.
Be Alright was founded in 2009 by Dr. Sonia Oyola, and since then and during this crisis, they continue to support many shelters and survivors of domestic violence.
Since the shelter-in-place order started, Be Alright has provided funds to the COVID-19 drives of many organizations that help people affected by domestic violence, including Apna Ghar, House of the Good Shepherd, Madonna House, Greenhouse, Su Casa, Maria Shelter, Family Rescue and Centro Romero, and has also delivered cleaning supplies, diapers, feminine hygiene products, clothing, and gift cards.
Be Alright hopes that these acts of kindness can help shape a future world where domestic violence is no longer tolerated. Please help us help them achieve that goal. The sale of these shirts will go to Be Alright, to help support survivors and their families as they are taking their next steps toward a safer life.
Thank you!
The Tweedys
Be Alright isn’t the only organization the Tweedys are raising money for during the pandemic. With his band Wilco, Jeff partnered with Vans on their Foot the Bill Initiative, which supports small businesses. Jeff nominated Sparrow, the Chicago-based hair salon featured in the video for “Some Birds.” Net proceeds from sales of the custom-designed Vans, pictured above, go to the salon. You can find out more here.
Jeff also took part in Our City of Neighbors, a Livestream concert by Windy City artists benefiting four front-line organizations providing services in Chicago. You can find out more about it here. Below, you can catch Jeff’s solo performance of Wilco’s “Alone.”
And, through May 12, Sam Jones’ I Am Trying to Break Your Heart (2002), a documentary about the making of Wilco’s Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, is screening for free on Oh You Pretty Things thanks to filmmaker Gary Hustwit and independent film company Film First. Viewers are invited to leave a tip. 50% of tips go to My Block, My Hood, My City, a non-profit chosen by Wilco that helps local Chicagoans during the COVID-19 crisis. (UPDATE 5/13: Jessica Edwards’s Peabody Award-winning documentary Mavis!, which features Jeff Tweedy, has replaced the Wilco documentary as the free film of the week on Oh You Pretty Things. It’s available here through May 19. But if you act quick, you may still catch I Am Trying to Break Your Heart for free here.)
