The Point Break Remake has a Trailer
We still aren’t sold that a remake of Point Break is necessary. The original is a classic. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starred Keanu Reeves as Johnny Utah, an FBI agent who goes undercover to catch a group of California surfers-cum-bank robbers led by Patrick Swayze. Lori Petty played Reeves love interest and Gary Busey added great comic relief. But, regardless of our hemming and hawing, the update appears to be in the can and the first trailer has arrived.
The new Point Break is directed by Ericson Core (Invincible), penned by Kurt Wimmer (Total Recall) and stars Aussie up-and-comer Luke Bracey in the Utah role with Venezuelan actor Édgar Ramírez as Bodhi, the ringleader of the thrill-seeking bad guys. (Initially Gerard Butler was supposed to play Bodhi, but negotiations fell threw.)
The effects in the remake have been improved, but the trailer is definitely missing that injection of humor that made the original endearing. Swayze also had his own brand of zen. Will Ramírez be able to compete? You can watch the trailers for the both the original and remake below and form your own opinions.
The 2.0 version of Point Break is slated for a Christmas 2015 release via Warner Bros. Pictures.
