The Lemon Twigs Announce New Album, Share Video For Single “The One” & 2020 Tour Dates (Updated)
The Lemon Twigs shared some super news ahead of super Tuesday. The Long Island duo have a new album on the way. Due out May 1st via 4AD, Songs for the General Public will be brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario’s third LP. The pair dotted the announcement with the release of a video for the record’s first single, “The One.” You can watch it below. The Lemon Twigs are also plotting a 2020 North American tour.
The brothers emerged as a musical force in 2016 with their debut LP Do Hollywood. With its sublime arrangements and melodies, the album celebrates rock ‘n’ roll’s intrepid journey over the ages. Then came Go To School in 2018, the pair’s daring coming-of-age opus about a chimpanzee raised as a human boy.
Now, the D’Addarios are aiming to expand their base with Songs for the General Public. The 12-track album was written, recorded, and produced by the D’Addarios at their Long Island home studio, Sonora Studios in Los Angeles and New York City’s Electric Lady.
As for the LP’s first taste, “The One” is a hooky endeavor about unrequited love. The video finds the boys trying to rally support in Ohio. Glammed up, the pair cruise around the heart of swing state country in a white van adorned with stars and stripes and the message “The One for America.” We see them canvassing and posting bumper stickers and signs around town. But it doesn’t look like they are having much luck. Flustered, they check into a motel near Dayton, and eventually send their van to the trash heap.
Michael Hili, aka Mickey Ratman, directed The Lemon Twigs’ new video. His other credits include the scandalous short for Kirin J Callinan’s “The Homosexual,” and Alex Cameron’s “Divorce.”
Songs for the General Public will be released digitally, and on CD, limited translucent red vinyl, and standard black vinyl. You can pre-order it now in all formats here. The first 100 vinyl pre-orders will receive a signed 12″x12″ insert with their record.
The Lemon Twigs plan to hit the road to support the new album. The tour starts on April 29 in Durham and makes a stop at Elsewhere in Brooklyn on May 15. All dates are below.
Update 3/27/20: The Lemon Twigs have canceled their 2020 tour and pushed back the release of their album to August 21 due to Covid-19. The band’s statement:
TO QUOTE AN OLD SHOWBIZ SAYING, “THE SHOW MUST NOT GO ON!”
IT’S WITH GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT THAT WE ANNOUNCE THE POSTPONEMENT OF OUR 2020 TOUR. WE KNOW YOU WANTED TO SEE US, AND WE WANTED TO SEE YOU TOO. AND THEY WANTED TO SEE US ALSO. NOT TO MENTION THEM. BUT AS WE RETREAT BACK INTO OURSELVES AND TRY TO PICK UP THE PIECES, WE DROP OUR KEYS, AND AFTER OUR KEYS, WE DROP OUR GLASSES. AND WITHOUT OUR GLASSES, IT BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND THE PIECES WE WERE LOOKING FOR. BUT I DIGRESS. I’D LIKE TELL YOU WHEN THE NEW SHOWS WILL BE, BUT I’M A LOUSY SCIENTIST, AND AN EVEN WORSE DOCTOR.
IT’S WITH EVEN GREATER DISAPPOINTMENT THAT WE MOVE OUR RECORD RELEASE DATE TO AUGUST 21ST. THEY SAY GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT, AND EVEN BETTER THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT LONGER. AND THEN THEY TELL YOU NOT TO PROCRASTINATE. WHAT KIND OF SENSE DOES THAT MAKE? TO TRY AND MAKE IT UP TO YOU, WE’RE HARD AT WORK ON ANOTHER RECORD. AND EXPECT SOME NEW TRACKS AND VIDEOS IN THE MEANTIME.
IN TIMES OF GLOBAL TURMOIL, I FIND IT COMFORTING TO RECALL SOMETHING THE LATE GREAT ABRAHAM LINCOLN ONCE SAID. AFTER THAT, I LIKE TO TAKE A LARGE ICE CUBE OUT FROM THE FREEZER AND SUCK ON IT FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES
♥LIGHT AND LOVE♥
