The Kills’ Alison Mosshart Gets Her First Solo Art Show

Alison Mosshart Fire Power art Joseph Gross Gallery New york City NYC In addition to being an amazing songwriter and singer, The Kills’ Alison Mosshart is also a prolific visual artist. Tomorrow, Mosshart’s first solo show, Fire Power, opens at Joseph Gross Gallery in New York City. It features 127 never before exhibited paintings, drawings, mixed media and tapestries that reflect the artist’s life on the road.

Mosshart is a self-taught artist who has been making art since she was a child. Her nonstop band touring schedule hasn’t been the most conducive to art making. She produces when she can, whether it be backstage during a soundcheck, on the bus or in her hotel room. She recently settled into a more formal studio, so larger works could be on the way. As for this show, the work is said to: “glorify the transience of life on the road, with each piece a snapshot of a person, conversation, place, time or mood in Mosshart’s continuously mobile life.”

The exhibit includes a series of tire track paintings, which the artist created by driving numerous remote control cars over canvases. Also on view are works done on Persian carpets and a number of portraits.

Last year, her art appeared in Push It, a 21-person group show devoted to female artists at ArtNowNY. Her work was well-received and consisted of works on paper, canvas and fabric.

Joseph Gross Gallery hosts an opening reception for Fire Power tomorrow, June 18, from 6pm-8pm. The show remains on view through July 11, 2015. Joseph Gross Gallery is located 548 West 28th Street, Suite 232, New York, NY 10001.
