Television, Viet Cong, Lower Dens to Play House of Vans’ Final Carnival Themed Party
Our favorite skate park-cum-music venue in Greenpoint is pulling out the cotton candy and carnival games once again for the final show in their summer/fall concert series. On Thursday, October 7, House of Vans will play host to a killer bill that includes seminal New York band Television, Viet Cong, Baltimore’s Lower Dens, and Pitchfork’s Brandon Stosuy, who will be manning the DJ decks. The show has an RSVP.
Television’s current line-up consists of Tom Verlaine, Fred Smith, Billy Ficca and guitarist Jimmy Rip. The group played a number of shows over the summer and appear at House of Vans following a gig at the Wilbur Theater in Boston on October 4. In related news, Television’s former guitarist Richard Lloyd was scheduled to play The Bell House in Brooklyn on October 3, but the show has been cancelled. His next show is scheduled for October 30 at Bowery Electric. Let’s hope that one goes off without a hitch. Tickets are available here.
Canadian post-punk band Viet Cong, who are going to be changing their name, appear at House of Vans amid a fall tour supporting their critically-acclaimed self-titled debut that dropped earlier this year via Jagjaguwar. Among their stops are Treasure Island Festival, Fun Fun Fun Fest, Sonic City, and All Tomorrow’s Parties in Wales. Viet Cong was also recently up for the prestigious Polaris Music Prize. For a taste of what they have in store, check out their video for “Bunker Buster” as well as their performance at the Polaris Music Prize awards below.
Also performing are Lower Dens. The band, who are fronted by the charismatic Jana Hunter, continue to fly high following the release of Escape From Evil. They are also on an exhaustive tour that will take them to spots all over Europe. See their tour dates and video for “Sucker’s Shangri-La” below.
The third and final show of the House of Vans Presents series will again feature the handiwork of Ken Farmer of Nuit Blanche NY. Farmer has created customer live art installations that can be found throughout the 25,000 square foot space. In addition to perusing the art, guests who attend the party will be able to partake of beer, compete for prizes, and chow down on fair-type fare like hot dogs, cotton candy and pretzels.
The RSVP appears to be full, but as we always say, when there is a will, there is a way. Perhaps the rsvp will re-open or try your luck by showing up early to the venue the night of the show. Doors are at 7pm.
