Takashi Murakami’s ‘Jellyfish Eyes’ in Theaters This Week
Far less dangerous than the Portuguese Man O’ War that have been washing up on our shores, Takashi Murakami’s Jellyfish Eyes arrives in theaters in this week. The Japanese pop artist’s debut feature is a post-Fukushima fantasy that mixes computer animation and live action. It offers a window into the artist’s wild, child-like imagination, and is a must-see for Murakami fans.
Tonight (July 13), Videology is hosting a free screening of the film. If you’re interested in attending, you can register here.
Murakami will also be at IFC Center two nights this week to celebrate Jellyfish Eyes’ release. On Tuesday (July 14), he is hosting a “Movie Night” screening of one of his favorite films, Michael Mann’s philosophical thriller Thief. Murakami returns the next night for the opening of Jellyfish Eyes. He will be on hand to do a Q&A following the 7pm screening. Tickets are still available.
