John David Washington, Adam Driver Team to Sting the KKK in ‘BlacKkKlansman’ Trailer (Watch)
We were beginning to think Spike Lee had lost his touch, but we have renewed faith in the Do the Right Thing director after watching the trailer for her latest, BlacKkKlansman. The based-on-actual-events film, which is having its world premiere at Cannes as we type, is about an undercover sting operation in the 1970s that was set up to infiltrate and expose the Klu Klux Klan. While reactions from the premiere should be leaking out on Twitter momentarily, U.S. audiences will have to wait until August 10, 2018 to lay their eyes on the film in its entirety. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer below.
BlacKkKlansman stars John David Washington as Ron Stallworth, the first African-American detective to serve on the Colorado Springs Police Department. Eager to make a splash, Stallworth sets his sights on taking down the KKK, a group that has been sanitizing its violent rhetoric to appeal to the mainstream. In addition to Washington, the film also stars Adam Driver, Ryan Eggold, Laura Harrier, and Topher Grace as David Duke. The film is based on Stallworth’s memoir, Black Klansman: Race, Hate, and the Undercover Investigation of a Lifetime, and is produced by the folks behind Get Out.
Upon viewing the trailer below, it’s scary how eerily present-day this 1970s-set story seems.
BlacKkKlansman arrives in theaters in the U.S. via Focus Features on August 10, 2018.
