Watch Spike Jonze’s Video for Karen O & Danger Mouse’s “Woman”, Shot on Colbert’s ‘Late Show’

If the networks continue producing live TV musicals, Spike Jonze could be your man to direct. The filmmaker just crafted a stage production/one-take live music video for Karen O and Danger Mouse’s “Woman” (off their new album Lux Prima) that is on fire. The performance was taped for last night’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. You can watch the appearance and what is now the official music video for the song down below. And yes, that’s Beanie Feldstein dancing up a storm.

It makes sense that Karen O would enlist Jonze to direct. The pair’s creative partnership goes way back. O collaborated with Jonze on the soundtrack for Where the Wild Things Are and on “The Moon Song” from the filmmaker’s Her.

In addition to Jonze, Karen O and Danger Mouse got help from a few other friends for last night’s production. Band members included Sam Cohen on guitar, Carla Azar on drums, Alecia Chakour on tambourine, and Sean McVerry on tech. As for the dance performance, we already called out Feldstein, who will soon be returning to theaters in Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart. Joining Feldstein were Coral Dolphin, Kya Thomas, Jessica Castro, Maija Knapp, Ebony Williams, and Steph Mitchell. Tanisha Scott is responsible for the choreography.

Karen O and Danger Mouse’s collaborate album Lux Prima is out now. You can pick it up here. The pair will present “An Encounter with Lux Prima,” an immersive, communal listening experience soundtracked by the album, April 18-21 at Los Angeles’ Marciano Art Foundation. Tickets are sold out, but there is a waitlist, join it here.

As for Spike Jonze, he has another taped live production he’s working on for the Beastie Boys. To accompany their New York Times Bestseller Beastie Boys Book, Michael Diamond (aka Mike D) and Adam Horovitz (aka ADROCK) have come up with a little stage production that they have been touring around. With the help of Jonze, they are polishing it up and will be taping it next month at three shows, one at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia (April 5), and two at Kings Theater in Brooklyn (April 8 and 9). Diamond and Horovitz announced their intentions last week during a keynote at SXSW (listen here) and via an announcement video. Tickets for these shows are on sale now.
