Royal Headache ‘High’ out Now, Playing Palisades, Saint Vitus This Weekend
We don’t usually like our headaches on repeat, but we’re happy to make an exception for Royal Headache. The Aussie band’s sophomore LP High dropped August 21, and it’s totally addictive. The group are in town this week playing shows in support.
Fronted by the charismatic Shogun, Royal Headache formed in Sydney in 2008 over an interest in stripped down, back-to-basics rock and roll. In 2011, they released their stellar self-titled debut which consisted of 12 quick, catchy tracks bursting with lo-fi, soul-tinged, guitar-ravaged goodness. After a hiatus and announcement the band had broken up, the foursome appear to be back in the saddle with High. For the new record, they dialed up the soul and passion and deliver something intoxicating. The songs, which feature Shogun crooning about love, are still raw but are bit more varied and are given slightly more room to breathe.
Check out “Another World” and the group’s nod to Neil Diamond, “Carolina”, below. The video for “Caroline” is directed by Damian Sawyers and was shot at the band’s practice space in Petersham, a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney.
Royal Headache play the last shows of their US tour this weekend. On Saturday they invade Palisades and Sunday then roll into Saint Vitus. The Saint Vitus show is sold out, but there will be some tickets available at the door, so get their early. High is out now in the US via What’s Your Rupture?
