Radiohead Announces Digital Release of New Album, Shares Video for ‘Daydreaming’
It will indeed be a happy Mother’s Day as Radiohead has just announced that their new album, still untitled, will be released digitally on Sunday, May 8 via XL Recordings. To tide fans over until then, the band have shared the video for another new track, “Daydreaming”. You can watch it below.
The visual for “Daydreaming,” which follows a dazed Thom Yorke as he opens doors, climbs staircases, and eventually lies down next to a fire, is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson. Anderson previously worked with the band’s Jonny Greenwood on the soundtracks for his films There Will Be Blood, The Master and Inherent Vice, ald also directed the documentary Junun, which documents the making of Greewood’s musical collaboration with Shye Ben Tzur and Rajasthan Express. The trailer for that project can be found here.
As for the song itself, it’s a melodic tune that appears to have some political undertones. As Yorke wanders through rooms, walks out on a beach and climbs a snowy mountain he croons: “dreamers they never learn”, “it’s too late the damage is done”, “this goes beyond me, beyond you”.
Radiohead’s new album will be available digitally at 2pm ET on Sunday, May 8th. It will be released in physical formats on June 17. “Daydreaming” is available digitally now here.
