Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Phantom Thread’ Secures 70mm Theatrical Engagements in NYC, LA & More
70mm is coming into fashion. Confirmed today, Paul Thomas Anderson’s much-anticipated Phantom Thread will screen in the wide, high-resolution format at select theaters. The exclusive engagements roll out in New York and Los Angeles on December 25, with runs to follow in San Francisco, Austin, Brooklyn and Chicago starting January 12. You can find a full list of theaters below.
Already the recipient of several critic awards, Phantom Thread is Paul Thomas Anderson’s return to narrative, with his last fiction feature being 2014’s Inherent Vice. Set in 1950’s London, the film stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Reynolds Woodcock, a renowned dressmaker whose life becomes upended after he falls for a young, strong-willed woman named Alma. Anderson’s story is complimented by a masterful score by Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood.
This will be the third feature that Anderson has released in 70mm, following Inherent Vice, and The Master. The format has received a much welcomed resurgence in part to Anderson, along with Quentin Tarantino, who released the Hateful Eight in 70mm in 2015, and Christopher Nolan. Nolan’s Dunkirk, which came out this summer and returns to theaters this month, received the widest 70mm release of any film in 25 years.
As far as where you can find Anderson’s carefully tailored work screening in all its glory, below is a list of the cinemas. Tickets are on sale now over here. Also, if you need a brush up, we’ve included the trailer.
