Olivia Wilde Short Film Starring Margaret Qualley Now Streaming, Watch ‘Wake Up’
That was fast. Following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on Friday, you can now watch Wake Up, the HP-commissioned short film directed by Olivia Wilde. A haunting 10-minute sci-fi-tinged thriller, the movie stars Margaret Qualley and explores human connections and our relationship with technology. People debuted the trailer for the short earlier this week.
Shot by the Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Matty Libatique, the film finds Qualley first in a hospital and then wandering the streets of New York City unencumbered by technology. No laptop, no smartphone, no smartwatch. Her only equipment is the hospital gown she woke up in. She later supplements it with a rain jacket that she steals from some electronic device-occupied person on the subway.
Qualley is captivating in Wilde’s dialogue-lite film that features a soundtrack by Perfume Genius. The story is told through Qualley’s facial expressions and body movements.
Still doing the awards circuit with Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, Qualley’s next project is Philippe Falardeau’s My Salinger Year. The film opens the 70th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival on February 20, 2020.
As for Wilde, her next feature is Don’t Worry Darling, a psychological thriller for the Time’s Up era that she directs and stars in. She’s also waiting to see if Bookmart will win a Film Independent Spirit Award. It’s nominated for Best First Feature.
