NYC: It’s Time to Come Out & Play

Come Out & Play, the annual festival of innovative street games, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Time certainly does fly when you’re having fun. Launching in 2006 at the former home of Eyebeam in Chelsea, the fete has since travelled to Amsterdam and is now a bi-coastal, cult-like phenomenon with annual editions in San Francisco and New York City. In honor of this year’s big milestone, Gotham’s multi-day event will feature popular games from festival’s past.

This weekend’s games get underway in DUMBO on Friday night with After Dark. Starting at 7pm, the streets in the Brooklyn hood are turned into an arcade with party games, physical video games and street games. Among this year’s amusements are Urban Werewolf, Abba Babba, Babel Disco, and Veterinarians Hospital: Ruff Day.

As for Family Day, the activities are designed by ESI Design and are connected together by a time travel storyline. The games are geared towards families, but children of all ages are welcome to partake.

As the sun goes down on Saturday, the party picks up at Kickstarter HQ in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. On tap is fraternizing with other players and game designers, as well as a selection of fun social party games. RSVP is requested for this portion of the festival.
