Nicholas Hoult is a Murderous A&R Music Exec in ‘Kill Your Friends’ Trailer
Destroy, despise, cheat, and crush. According to the new quick-cutting NSFW trailer for British indie thriller Kill Your Friends, these are the characteristics that make for a good music industry executive.
Penned by John Niven and based on his acclaimed 2008 novel of the same name, Kill Your Friends is a dark comedy set in London around the time of 1990s Britpop boom. It stars Nicholas Hoult as Steven Stelfox, a greedy, drug-addled 27-year-old A&R exec at a record label who appears to be living the dream. But, when the hit well starts drying up, he begins exploring a more nefarious business model. The film is directed by Owen Harris, whose credits include British TV series Misfits and Black Mirror, and also stars James Corden, Craig Roberts, Rosanna Arquette, Tom Riley and Ed Skrein. From the trailer, which you can watch below, the film seems to be Get me the Greek meets American Psycho.
As you can imagine, a film about the music industry is likely to sport an amazing soundtrack. Kill Your Friends features an original score composed by Tom Holkenborg aka Junkie XL, as well as music by Radiohead, Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Oasis, Blur & more.
Kill Your Friends, which had its world premiere earlier this month at the Fantasy Film Festival in Berlin, screens in the ‘City to City: London’ program at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival and will be in theaters in the UK this fall. Well Go USA Entertainment owns domestic distribution rights and plans release the film in the U.S. early next year.
