MoMA PS1 to Offer Free Admission to New Yorkers, ‘Greater New York’ Opens Sunday
MoMA PS1 may have just upped its popularity among New Yorkers. Today, the Long Island City museum announced a free admission policy for New York residents. Starting October 11, 2015 and running the duration of one year, those that dwell in the five boroughs can enjoy the art institution’s many exhibitions gratis. This wonderful gift is made possible by the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Foundation and honors all New York City artists. It also marks MoMA PS1’s 40th anniversary, which is celebrated in 2016.
The announcement comes just days before the museum opens its renowned Greater New York. Occurring every five years, Greater New York is an ongoing exhibition series that the museum initiated in collaboration with MoMA in 2000. This year’s iteration will inhabit the entire building and will feature 157 artists, both established and emerging. Among those included in the 2015 edition are Charlie Ahearn, Chantal Akerman, Charles Atlas, Tony Matelli, Sara Cwynar, Elizabeth Jaeger, Richard Artschwager and many more. Performance and film programs also accompany the exhibit. Greater New York opens October 11, 2015 and remains on display through March 7, 2016.
