Many people may not know this, but Michael Shannon has a band. Yes, Michael Shannon, the incredibly talented actor who you’ve seen in Boardwalk Empire and Revolutionary Road, is also a musician. This Friday, he’ll be performing with Corporal (that’s his band), at the June edition of Bushwick’s best talk/comedy show Late Night Basement with Chris Rose.

Corporal has been around for a while. In 2007, they started playing out at bars like Goodbye Blue Monday, and in 2010 they released their self-titled debut album. The band consists of Shannon, Ray Rizzo, and Rob Beitzel.

In addition to singing and strumming his guitar, Shannon will also being chatting with Rose at Friday’s event. We expect they’ll discuss some of his many upcoming films, which include Peter Bogdanovich’s She’s Funny That Way, Ramin Bahrani’s 99 Homes, Elvis & Nixon, Freeheld, Midnight Special, and Werner Herzog’s Salt and Fire.

Friday’s bill also has some very talented funny people. Doing stand-up sets are Opus Moreschi, the current head writer on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and Naomi Ekperigin, who was a staff writer on Broad City and Hulu’s upcoming Difficult People.

With the June installment, Late Night Basement moves to the roomy Livestream Public. Previous shows, like the May edition that featured actress/director Lake Bell, were standing room only at the Pine Box Rock Shop. 

The cherry on the top of what is already an amazing cake is that the show is free. Late Night Basement is always free. If you RSVP at Eventbrite and are one of the first 50 people to arrive, you’ll also score a free Heavy Seas beer.
