Kyle Craft Tells Trump to Shut It in New Song, Playing Mercury Lounge

Portland, Oregon-based musician Kyle Craft has cited Bob Dylan as a huge influence on his music. And, where it might not have been so obvious before, it certainly is apparent with “Before the Wall”, a new track shared today. A bonafide protest song, it calls for Donald Trump to shut it. It addresses such topics as climate change, the second amendment, and immigration, and closes with a impassioned plea that addresses Trump directly. You can listen to the fearless track below.

Craft, who grew up in a small town in Louisiana, released his stellar debut LP Dolls of Highland in April via Sub Pop. Written following a break up and recorded in Shreveport, Louisiana, the album is a delicious example of glam rock that’s been southern fried with Craft drawing comparison to David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Dr. John. Not exposed to much music growing up, by chance, Craft started his record collection with a David Bowie hits compilation. However, Craft claims that Bob Dylan was the one who really helped him find his voice, and what a voice it is. We’re completely smitten. For a sampling, you can check out his video for album track “Eye of a Hurricane” below.

Currently on tour, Craft plays an early show at Mercury Lounge tonight with labelmate Mass Gothic. Tickets are still available here. For a complete list of his upcoming gigs see below.
