Kirin J. Callinan Tools Around Cuba in “S.A.D.” Video; New Album ‘Bravado’ Coming in June
Our favorite Aussie weirdo Kirin J. Callinan has shared a video for his single “S.A.D.” (just another song about drugs). This new visual, which you can watch below, finds the artist popping up all over Cuba. The video’s release coincides with the start of his North American tour with Pond. Kirin also shared more information about his sophomore solo album. Entitled Bravado, the record is due out June 9, 2017 on Terrible Records.
For the video, Kirin enlisted the help of Australian photographer Danny Cohen, whose other credits include King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s “Gamma Knife” video and the photograph of Mac DeMarco standing in a cigarette shower. The video features Kirin posing for the camera in a variety of locations in Cuba. In one shot he’s riding a tractor, in another he’s dancing in the street, and in yet another he’s modeling an elephant Speedo that showcases his schlong. The video not only shows off Kirin’s bravado and quirky sense of humor, but is also an excellent travelogue of Cuba.
Kirin’s tour with Aussie psych rockers Pond kicked off last night in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall. It makes two stops in New York, May 9 at Music Hall of Williamsburg and May 10 at Bowery Ballroom. Tickets are still available. Kirin also tacked on to his tour a date in London and some shows in Australia. See below.
“S.A.D.”, as well as the previously released new track “Bravado”, are featured on Bravado. The album also includes collaborations with Sean Nicholas Savage, Alex Cameron, Connan Mockasin, the Finn Family and more. The track list is below. You can pre-order the LP here.
Kirin also contributed to another project that is getting some play, The Night Game’s 80s-infused debut track “The Outfield.” The Night Game is the new musical outlet of Matt Johnson, frontman of Boys Like Girls. You can listen to the new song below.
