Kirin J Callinan and Alex Cameron, who both hail from Australia, have organized a last-minute benefit for Australian fire relief. Dubbed ‘Belief 4 Relief,’ the show takes place at Baby’s All Right on Thursday, January 16. The evening includes performances by Kirin, Alex and Roy Molloy, The Lemon Twigs, Pecas, and MC Big Wet, with a DJ set by Jemima Kirke. The show will also feature a live auction. Tickets start at $20 and are on sale now.

Since September, brushfires have ravaged Australia. It’s estimated that over 1 billion animals have been killed across the country. This includes thousands of koalas and other species such as kangaroos, kookaburras, and cockatoos. Many of the animals that remain are injured or homeless.

Kirin has been a busy boy in 2020. He performed on NYE with The Strokes and Mac DeMarco and released an epic video for “The Homosexual.” Alex has been out touring to support Miami Memory. He has more shows coming up in Australia and New Zealand starting in February.

Musicians in Australia hosting fundraisers & auctions to benefit charities

Australian artists and musicians have been doing what they can to call attention to the bushfire emergency and raise money. Melbourne musicians Courtney Barnett and Camp Cope played two fundraising concerts in Victoria and have put a signed fender up for auction. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, who are also from Melbourne, have released three live albums via Bandcamp, Live in Brussels ’19, Live in Adelaide ’19, and Live in Paris ’19, with 100% of the proceeds going to various Australian wildlife charities. Director/photographer Danny Cohen auctioned off limited edition prints of Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile, Mac DeMarco, and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

Coming up, Alice Cooper, Olivia Newton-John, Queen, Adam Lambert, k.d. lang, and more will gather at ANZ Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park on February 16 for the now sold out Fire Fight Australia. Alex Lahey, POND, and Stella Donnelly also have shows planned.

There are a few other Australian fire relief benefits coming up in New York City. A group of actors and comedians will be doing a live reading of Tom Scharpling’s Grown-Ups 3 spec script on Monday, January 20 at the Bell House. (Le) Poisson Rouge hosts Moulin Rouge! Presents: A Benefit For The Australian Bushfires on Monday, January 27, and NYC Loves Australia: A Benefit Concert with The Art Gray Noizz Quintet, Big Balls, C Gibbs, and the Salvation Tapes, and Paula Henderson and Sean Van Doornum will take place at Our Wicked Lady on January Wednesday, 29.
