Karen O & Danger Mouse’s Lux Prima Live Show Coming to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre

Lux Prima Brooklyn Show PosterWe feel like Karen O and Danger Mouse have been holding out on us. Today the pair announced that they are bringing their special live performance of Lux Prima to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre for one night only on Thursday, November 14. This will be the same sold-out show that the duo performed at The Theatre at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles back in September. When the Los Angeles gig was originally announced, it was touted as the “only live show” to support the collaborative album. Then one show in LA turned into two, and now they are bringing it to the East Coast. Could one night in New York turn into two? Or, lead to a show across the Atlantic? Fingers-crossed. Tickets for the November 14 show go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 18 at 10am ET. A venue (password: KINGSFAN) and AMEX presale starts on Wednesday, October 16 at 10am ET.

Lux Prima is arguably one of the most impeccably produced albums of 2019. So, it was disappointing that initially there were no plans for Karen O and Danger Mouse to tour behind it. Instead, they did some press and mounted the multisensory installation “An Encounter with Lux Prima” at the Marciano Art Foundation. The installation, which was a communal listening experience featuring projection mapping and a large rock, had some high-profile collaborators, among them Karen O’s husband Barnaby Clay, Oscar-nominated sound designer Ren Klyce (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Fight Club), lighting designer Tobias Rylander (Robyn, The xx, FKA twigs), visual artist Davy Evans, creative consultant Warren Fu (Daft Punk, The Weeknd, Depeche Mode), and Travis Threlkel of MSG’s Obscura Digital. It was teased that the installation might travel, but it hasn’t.

After the installation came down, the duo shared a documentary about the making of the work. Directed by Luisa Conlon and Max Knight, the short film features interviews with the folks that produced it. You can watch that film below. Also available is merch inspired by the installation, including a lapis stone candle modeled after the rock.

As for the performance coming to Brooklyn, it features a 12-piece band, an elaborate lighting set up, and multiple costume changes for O. Based on reviews from Music Connection, CR and Audio Snobbery, it sounds like the show is transcendental.

If you haven’t watched the Spike Jonze-directed video for Lux Prima’s “Woman,” you can catch up with it here. Again, tickets for the special Lux Prima performance go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 18 at 10am ET over at Ticketmaster.
