John Dwyer’s Oh Sees Sharing Surprise on YouTube This Week Amid Coronavirus [Updated with Video]
John Dwyer’s Oh Sees are dropping a Coronavirus quarantine relief package on Friday, March 20. Castle Face Records, Dwyer’s label, announced the news via a note on social media. What exactly the band is sharing is a surprise, but it will materialize as a video on Castle Face Records’ YouTube channel.
The nasty pandemic that’s sweeping the country has already affected one Oh Sees show. The band were supposed to play Melted Music Festival over the weekend. Sadly, the organizers had to cancel the Columbus, Ohio event. Ron Gallo, who was also on the bill, didn’t want to disappoint fans, so he took his set to Instagram live. He performed two shows from his living room; one on Saturday for those in the U.S., and one on Sunday for fans in Italy.
As for what Oh Sees have cooking, it’s described as being “a little something-something.” Here’s the note from Castle Face:
With everyone stuck working from home, shows getting cancelled, and people going a little stir-crazy already, John and the boys from Oh Sees decided to put together a little something-something for us, which we’ll be airing on this Friday on our YouTube channel…so tune in. If you’re not following us yet, you can follow us here.
OK people, stay safe and above all be excellent to each other –
xoxo CF

Dwyer also has a new Damaged Bug LP in the can, Bug On Yonkers. A record of cover songs, it finds Dwyer paying tribute to one of his musical heroes, Michael Yonkers. Dwyer worked with Tom Dolas, Nick Murray and Brigid Dawson on the record, which is due out April 24 via Castle Face. You can read more about the project here and check out the album’s first single, “I Tried,” below.
If coffee table books are your thing, Dwyer is reissuing his collection of photographs, Vinegar Mirror. The book features film photos from 2009-2013 taken by Dwyer and is due out March 27. Pre-order it here.
The next shows on the Oh Sees’ tour schedule are in May. The band are supposed to play a benefit in Los Angeles on May 9 and then head to the UK. Fingers-crossed the world is in a better place with fighting the Coronavirus by then.
Oh Sees’ last album, Face Stabber, is available here. And if you need something visual to tide you over until Friday, check out their Live on KEXP session here.
