John Dwyer/Mr. Elevator Synth Project, Osees, Play Zebulon Sessions

Osees, the synthed-out side project of Oh Sees commander-in-chief John Dwyer and keyboardist Tomas Dolas (aka Mr. Elevator), are featured in the next episode of the Zebulon Sessions. A video of the group playing an improvised jam (without an audience) at Zebulon in Los Angeles will premiere today, Thursday, May 21, at 10pm ET/7pm PT. Tune in below.

At the end of 2019, before all this pandemic mess, Dwyer and Dolas christened Osees with the release of the 12″ Synth via Dwyer’s label, Castle Face Records. Consisting of tracks, “Infinite Columns,” and “Regards to the Monolith,” the record delivers 40 minutes of sublime space-age ambiance. You can listen to the audio here.

The band enlisted Dr. D Foothead to make an animated video for A-side track “Infinite Columns.” He created a hypnotic, otherworldly, color-changing visual. You can find that here.

The Osees’ improvised jam is the third installment in the Zebulon Sessions series. Other episodes spotlight frequent Ty Segall collaborator and In the Red Records signee, Charles Moothart (video), and Sub Pop recording artist Shannon Lay (video). Oh Sees also filmed a rehearsal at the venue where they played songs off their next album. They premiered that video early on in the lockdown. You can catch up with that here.

As for tonight’s session, Brandon Kelly, Matt Doyle, Kevin Luna, and Brian Lee Hughes were the crew on the video, with Matt Littlejohn and Mike Kriebel handling the audio. Besides Dwyer and Dolas, Zebulon owner Joce Soubrian and dog Buddy play supporting roles.

In related Oh Sees news, the band rescheduled their UK tour for November (updated dates here). Dwyer also posted the following note on the band’s website:

To our fans. It’s been a rough ride recently, and we miss you. We will have some surprises coming up in the next couple weeks/months, so keep your ears and eyes peeled. It just isn’t the same without sharing a good show, a few drinks, and handshakes, etc. Let’s hope this path veers back towards the one we were on just a few months back. Stay strong in the storm. Make something. Take care JPD ps: peace on your journey Florian Schneider & Little Richard and thank you for everything you gave us. And now, Fred Willard.
