Jack Ladder & the Dreamlanders Covered Dire Straits, Kick off US Tour Tonight
A good baritone gets us every time, which is why we’re totally smitten with Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders. In lead-up to their US tour, which kicks off tonight at Baby’s All Right, the boys have shared a twangy cover of Dire Straits’ “So Far Away”. You can take a listen below.
Hailing from Australia, the supergroup, which is comprised of Ladder, Donny Benét on bass, Kirin J Callinan on guitar, Laurenz Pike on drums, and Neal Sutherland on synthesizers, made their US debut earlier this year with the release of Playmates on Fat Possum. The band’s fourth studio album, Playmates finds Ladder’s voice cascading over 80s-inspired synths and glam-era guitar heroics. Indie rock goddess Sharon van Etten also joins in on two tracks, one of which you can find the video for below.
We caught Ladder and the gang at Rough Trade back in March and were quite mesmerized. Ladder is a towering figure, but comes off as a gentle giant as he croons his way through songs about love and promises. Callinan, who we also know and love as a solo artist, is captivating on lead guitar and adds a wonderful quirkiness to the group’s live show.
The band play Baby’s All Right tonight and Mercury Lounge tomorrow, tickets are still available. You can find a complete list of tour dates below. Playmates is available for purchase on Fat Possum’s website. If you act now you can take advantage of the label’s sitewide December sale.
