Guillermo del Toro Organizes ‘How Am I Spending Quarantine’ Twitter Thread with Jordan Peele, Ava DuVernay, and More

At 12pm ET today, there will be an event on social media that will set Film Twitter ablaze. Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, The Shape of Water) announced he is organizing an informal online Twitter thread with a dozen of his filmmaker friends to share how they are passing their time in quarantine. The conversation will focus on what they’re reading, listening to, and watching. The list of filmmakers keeps growing, but it includes Jordan Peele (Us, Get Out), Rian Johnson (Knives Out), Ava DuVernay (When They See Us), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), and Edgar Wright (Baby Driver).

Del Toro was in production on a film when the coronavirus pandemic hit. Nightmare Alley, a psychological thriller based on William Lindsay Gresham’s novel of the same name, had to suspend shooting. The film stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Rooney Mara, and David Strathairn.

The two-time Oscar winner also has two projects for Netflix on his plate. A stop-motion Pinocchio that features the voices of Tilda Swinton, Ewan McGregor, and David Bradley has a tentative release date of 2021. And Wizards, del Toro’s final chapter in the Tales of Arcadia trilogy, which appears to be unphased by the health crisis, debuts on the streamer in July.

With over 1.9 million Twitter followers, del Toro is an active and engaged Twitter user. The filmmaker posted the following to his Twitter on Sunday regarding Monday’s thread:
