Ghostface/GZA, Joey Bada$$ playing House of Vans, Julian Casablancas and the Voidz Party Re-cap (Pics)
How does one follow up a free party featuring Julian Casablancas and the Voidz? If you’re House of Vans, you summon the powers of the Wu-Tang Clan. For the second carnival-themed soiree in their 2015 summer/fall series, the lifestyle brand’s Brooklyn outpost is hosting hip hop legends Ghostface Killah and GZA, who will be doing a collaborative set, along with Joey Bada$$ and DJ Envy.
Ghostface Killah, who teamed up with BADBADNOTGOOD and Adrian Younge on new records earlier this year, appears at the skatepark-cum-music venue fresh off his Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 20th Anniversary Tour with Raekwon. His stage mate for this show, GZA, has also been keeping busy. It was recently announced that GZA cancelled some European tour dates because he’s working on an album with legendary film composer Vangelis. Titled Dark Matter, the record explores the rapper’s interest in science and physics and should be out in 2016.
Opener Joey Bada$$ has also been making his fair share of headlines. The Brooklyn-raised, up-and-comer is currently taking over the world one city at a time on his World Domination Tour. His debut album B4.DA.$$ was released earlier this year is available via Pro Era & Cinematic Music Group. Below, check out his video for “Paper Trail$” as well as a recent interview he did with Statik Selektah for Noisey. Also, you’ll find his upcoming tour dates.
As for what else to expect at this House of Vans bash, the carnival-theme is on point. For the Casablancas affair, Vans, along with Ken Farmer of Nuit Blanche NY, transformed the space into a playground with interactive games and art installations. The fun was served up with a side of hot dogs, cotton candy, beer and more. See our photos from the first fete below.
The Ghostface/GZA party goes down Thursday, September 3, with doors at 7pm and the show at 8pm. The RSVP appears to be closed, but when there’s a will, there’s a way.
