British poet, playwright, and rapper Kate Tempest is in town to celebrate the US release of her debut novel The Bricks that Built the Houses. A companion piece to her Mercury Prize-nominated album Everybody Down, the book is a multi-generational tale of drugs, desire and belonging. At the open of the craftily spun story, a trio of young Londoners, Becky, Harry and Leon, are fleeing the city with a suitcase full of money. The reader is then taken back in time to learn what led up to their current predicament. Tempest discusses the book with poet Natalie Diaz at this exclusive NYC appearance that is co-hosted by Housing Works and WORD. A Q&A and signing follow.
Admission is $26 and includes a copy of the book. Advance tickets can be purchased here.
