British poet, playwright, and rapper Kate Tempest is in town to celebrate the US release of her debut novel The Bricks that Built the Houses. A companion piece to her Mercury Prize-nominated album Everybody Down, the book is a multi-generational tale of drugs, desire and belonging. At the open of the craftily spun story, a trio of young Londoners, Becky, Harry and Leon, are fleeing the city with a suitcase full of money. The reader is then taken back in time to learn what led up to their current predicament.
