The Armory Show is back to spark some March madness in the New York art scene. Now in its 22nd year, the dizzying affair is serving up its most international fair to-date, hosting 205 galleries from 36 countries. Again broken out in two sections, modern and contemporary, this edition of the Armory Show spotlights African Perspectives in its annual Focus section, which this year is curated by Julia Grosse and Yvette Mutumba. The Armory Show also selects a commissioned artist each year who is charged with designing the fair’s Catalog, creating an on-site project and producing a limited edition artwork with proceeds benefitting MoMA. For 2016, Kapwani Kiwanga was awarded the title. Also of note are The Armory Show’s talks. Among this year’s highlights are a discussion of Andy Warhol, a panel on Visual Criticism in the Digital Age featuring Jerry Saltz (New York Magazine), and a design dialogue with architect David Adjaye and artist Isaac Julien. Overwhelming to many, we highly recommend checking out this show over the course of a couple of days.
