The Culture File for August 8-11 (NYC Edition): ‘Labyrinth’, Neon Indian, Wes Anderson Week & More
Did you get a load of those Olympics this weekend? If not, there’s more to come. We’ve actually put together a handy dandy list of watch parties that you can find here. If you’re willing to forego men’s swimming, the Loft & Rooftop Films present the last film in their LOL summer comedy series at SolarOne. The closer is the sports-minded My Blind Brother, which stars Nick Kroll, Adam Scott, Jenny Slate and Zoe Kazan. Also on this week, Torres performs in MoMA’s garden as part of the museum’s Summer Thursdays series, and a newly restored version of John Waters’ Multiple Maniacs continues at IFC Center. Looking for more? There are additional ideas below, including Wes Anderson Week at Syndicated, swing dancing in DUMBO, Labyrinth at Prospect Park and more.
Monday, August 8
FILM: Wes Anderson Week
From August 8-14, Syndicated is breaking out Wes Anderson’s back catalog. Known for his idiosyncratic style and working multiple times with the same group of actors, Anderson’s films are always instant cult classics. We aren’t sure when his next project, rumored to be a a stop-motion film about dogs, will be complete, but until then we have no problem re-watching his past films like 100 times each. The schedule for this week is as follows: Moonrise Kingdom – August 8, The Grand Budapest Hotel – August 9, Bottle Rocket – August 10, Rushmore – August 11, The Royal Tenenbaums – August 12 & 13, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou – August 12 & 13, & The Darjeeling Limited – August 14.
