Eric André’s ‘Rapper Warrior Ninja’ Gets Series Order from Quibi
Eric André is getting himself a piece of that sweet, sweet Quibi pie. Jeffrey Katzenberg’s deep-pocketed, short-form mobile streaming service, which is set to launch April 6, 2020, is teaming up with Eric for a new series, Rapper Warrior Ninja. Co-created and executive produced by Eric and his frequent collaborator Kitao Sakurai, the series is adapted from a popular bit that aired during episode 2 of The Eric Andre Show Season 4. Included below is an extended clip of the segment.
The version of Rapper Warrior Ninja that appeared on The Eric Andre Show is a mashup of a rap battle and budget-edition of America Ninja Warrior. The competition required contestants freestyle as they made their way through a make-shift obstacle course. In the video below, Eric invited rappers Danny Brown, A$AP Rocky, Go Dreamer, Nocando, and Open Eagle Mike to compete. In the actual The Eric Andre Show episode, only Brown, A$AP Rocky and Go Dreamer made the cut.
As for what’s coming to Quibi, it’s being billed as “the biggest rap battle to ever hit the hip hop world.” We expect it will be more polished than its predecessor and will run 15-minutes long, which is the length of a Quibi show.
Other celebs and creators who have inked deals with Quibi include Chrissy Teigen, Steven Spielberg, Idris Elba, Darren Criss, Jennifer Lopez, Sam Raimi, Tyra Banks, the Farrelly brothers, Will Forte, Guillermo del Toro, Thomas Lennon, and Scooter Braun.
As for Eric’s other pursuits, last week he announced Season 5 of The Eric Andre Show would return to Adult Swim in 2020. He continues to shock sold-out crowds on his Legalize Everything tour, which is currently in Florida (see updated dates below). Plus, he’ll be at the Adult Swim Festival on November 16, and Bad Trip, his hidden camera prank comedy, arrives in theaters on April 24, 2020.
