Eric André’s Alter Ego Blarf Shares Gnarly “Banana” Video
We haven’t heard the last of Eric André’s alter ego Blarf. With his debut LP, Cease & Desist, out now, Blarf has shared a video for album track “Banana.” This is the second visual for the album, the first being “Badass Bullshit Benjamin Buttons Butthole Assassin.” The sumptuous visual montage that is the “Banana” video is included below.
Stones Throw unleashed Cease & Desist on the world on June 26. Interested parties can download the album for free on Bandcamp or stream it on YouTube.
The video for “Banana” is simply bananas. It features a variety of images edited together including scenes from The Bodyguard, and Point Break (the Keanu Reeves edition), a Sagat vs. Rose Street Fighter match-up, animated soccer balls, a man riding a rollercoaster, a boy holding a sloth and more. The video closes with footage of André having a meltdown in a McDonald’s while dressed as Ronald McDonald. The bit was originally filmed for The Eric Andre Show but the network censored it. As for the track, it’s a mash-up of Tropicália and free jazz with a beauteous orchestral crescendo in the middle.
To date, André’s Blarf has performed one live show. It was the record release party for Cease & Desist that took place at the Lodge Room in Los Angeles on July 6. The raucous affair again found André dressing up as Ronald McDonald. We don’t expect any other live Blarf shows soon, but he likely has another video or two up his sleeve. Stay tuned.
