Deerhunter Announces New Album, Shares Video for ‘Snakeskin’
Deerhunter has fired a resounding shot into the August lull with the announcement of their seventh studio album and the release of a new video. The record, entitled Fading Frontier, is set for release October 14, 2015 via 4AD. Bradford Cox broke the news last night during a two-hour radio show on Atlanta’s AM 1960 and premiered the track “Snakeskin.” You can check out the video for the new song below.
Fading Frontier is said to be a departure from the group’s 2013 release Monomania, and finds Cox and his crew focussing on melody and texture. Among the highlights are a song that sees Cox and Lockett Pundt sharing lead vocal duties for the first time, and a track featuring Broadcast’s James Cargill.
Recorded in Atlanta, the album was produced with the assistance of longtime band collaborator Ben H. Allen III. It’s available for preorder now via 4AD and iTunes.
As for the first taste of the record, “Snakeskin” is a glorious blues/funk-infused rock tune. The song’s accompanying video, which is directed by musician Valentina Tapia (Shantih Shantih), is a surreal romp involving a dog, skulls, animated snakes, Cox in a pair of overalls, and more. “Snakeskin” is available now for download.
Following the record’s release Deerhunter set out on a European tour. See dates, as well as the album’s tracklist below.
