Dan Savage’s HUMP! Film Festival Comes to New York
Dan Savage’s HUMP! Film Festival is making a splash landing in Brooklyn tonight, right in the middle of Pride Week. Billed as the sexiest, funnest, most creative dirty movie fest in the world, HUMP! was born in Seattle and has been going strong since 2005. Savage, the man behind the popular sex/relationship column Savage Love, curates the fest, which features amateur porn films. Ordinary guys and gals from the Pacific Northwest create five-minute dirty movies in hopes of winning big cash prizes. Since these folks are operating outside the standard porn studio system, these films take many different forms and engage in a variety of sexual styles.
The fest is such a phenomenon that Lynn Shelton made a movie about it called Humpday. It premiered at Sundance in 2009 and starred Mark Duplass and Joshua Leonard as two heterosexual male friends who decide to make a gay porno to submit to the festival.
A couple of years ago, Savage got the bright idea to take a selection of the fest’s best films on the road. Tonight, this year’s tour invades the Wythe Hotel with screenings at 7pm and 9pm. Among the 18 titles to look forward to are Beethoven’s Stiff, The Glory Hole, Twincest, and Anal Alley, which features a butt plug bowling set. Tickets for this rousing cinematic celebration can be purchased here.
If you’re in New York and miss out on tonight’s screenings, you’ll have another chance to catch up with the tour in August when the fest plays Roulette. Tickets are available now for the screenings which take place August 28 at 7pm & 9pm, and August 29 at 6pm, 8pm & 10pm. Visit the HUMP! Film Festival website for more information.
