Colin Meloy Covers Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd and More for All Covers Instagram Live Show (Watch)
The Decemberists’ Colin Meloy delivered a special all covers edition of his Isolation Sing-a-Long Instagram Live show on Friday, May 1, 2020. Sadly, this installment might be the musician’s last one for a while. But it should more than tide you over if and when he returns. The set found him reinterpreting songs by Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Van Morrison, Neutral Milk Hotel, Neil Young, and over half-dozen others. You can watch it below.
The Portland, Oregon-dwelling singer-songwriter began performing Friday afternoon shows back in March when the coronavirus lockdown first got underway. He often used them to raise money or highlight a particular cause. A few weeks back, it was the Newport Festivals Musician Relief Fund. This time, he is throwing his support behind the Family Preservation Project, a Portland-based organization that helps incarcerated moms stay connected with their children. Like other musicians, Colin is contemplating a break from doing his weekly IG Live shows. He explained he has other things on his plate, including finishing a book, homeschooling his kids, baking bread, and living. It sounds like Colin isn’t completely ruling out more quarantine relief concerts. You’ll just have to stay tuned to his Instagram for announcements.
As for the show’s setlist, it runs the gamut in terms of genre. Some songs are ones Colin has performed out before, while others are new. It’s one of his best IG Live shows so far. He’s improved the sound over the run.
The Decemberists’ tour with Fruit Bats hasn’t been canceled yet. It is supposed to kick off July 28 in Missoula, MT. For more information, go here.
