We caught Drinks three times at CMJ and found them to be utterly intoxicating. The project of Tim Presley (White Fence) and Welsh singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon, Drinks released their debut LP Hermits On Holiday on Heavenly Recordings/Birth Records in August. Sonically, the music melds her minimalist folk-pop vibe with his psychedelic guitar riffs. Their songs together take glorious and unexpected turns. It may not be to everyone’s tastes, but their album has earned a prominent spot in our playlist.

As for Drinks’ live show, Presley and Le Bon are joined by a drummer and bass player. Each tune is like a meditation. The musicians have an amazing connection and we developed a new appreciation for the songs, which came to life with Presley’s guitar playing. Of the three shows, our favorite was their set at Baby’s All Right. The more intimate venue better served their heavenly quirkiness.
