Carrie Brownstein on ‘Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl’ Book Tour, Touring With Sleater-Kinney Soon
Carrie Brownstein certainly has her hands in a lot of pots. A member of the recently reunited all-gal rock trio Sleater-Kinney, Brownstein is also the co-creator, co-writer and co-star of Portlandia, is a regular on the Amazon series Transparent, can be seen in Todd Haynes’ upcoming film Carol, and just released her new book Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl via Riverhead Books. At 41, she’s appears to be hitting her stride.
Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl, which came out yesterday, is an affecting memoir about how Brownstein found herself in music. Currently on tour in support of the book, she will be at Barnes & Noble Union Square at 7pm tonight to discuss it with her Transparent co-star Gaby Hoffman. After New York, she makes stops in Philadelphia, Chicago, Austin and more. At each appearance she will be joined by a special guest interviewer. See dates and cities below.
Sleater-Kinney, Brownstein’s band with Corin Tucker and Janet Weiss, has also been having a big year. Following the release of the critically lauded No Cities to Love in January via Sub Pop, the group went on an extensive tour that took them across the US and Europe. They will be packing their bags again come the end of November for more appearances. They first hit Mexico before making their way back to New York City to perform five shows. See below for a clip of their amazing performance of “Modern Girl” at the Pitchfork Music Festival this past July.
As for Brownstein’s beloved IFC series with Fred Armisen, Portlandia, the show recently wrapped production on Season 6. Rumored to begin airing in early 2016, this season will feature cameos by Louis C.K. and Glenn Danzig, as well as an episode shot at Pickathon with The Flaming Lips. Brownstein and Armisen announced in an interview with The Oregonian that if they get to Season 8 (7 has already been green-lit), that it will be the show’s last as a TV series.
